Captain Gurbachan Singh Salaria, PVC, was born on 29 November 1935.
Capt Salaria was an alumnus of *King George's Royal Indian Military College* and the *National Defence Academy*. He was the first NDA alumnus and the only Indian Army officer on United Nations Peacekeeping Force to have been awarded the Param Veer Chakra (PVC), India's highest gallantry award, when on 05 December 1961, he made the supreme sacrifice fighting the Katanga rebels in DR Congo.
