An Unfading Military Vignette
As a newly commissioned officer on arriving in the unit, I went to unit baniya to buy a cycle. He told me that the cycle will be arriving in his shop and I should send my sahayak to him at around 4 pm. Rifleman Pankaj Dimri went and brought the cycle. In the morning when I was readying the cycle for going to office, I noticed that there was no carrier on the cycle. When I came back I told Pankaj to go and get the carrier fitted( as I had paid money for full cycle).
Next morning, I found my cycle with a beautiful carrier but leaning on the wall. I noticed that the stand was missing. After office I went to baniya and asked him furiously about this nonsense.
He said :
"Saab, 35 Sal se wet canteen chala raha hu, teen general is unit ke mere se cycle kharid chuke. Ek hi baat samajh me ayee hai. Stand loge to career nahin banega, career banana hai to kabhi stand mat lena"
