Along the boundary of Vizag Naval base area where Nofra and 104 area (sailors accommodation ), are located ; there are many civilian colonies in the vicinity.
Over the years most of them have become aware about the Naval Ranks .

Once while travelling for a meeting at one of the junctions near 104 area ; my official vehicle was stopped for traffic control since a VIP was to pass .
So my vehicle had a longish halt while waiting for the VIP entourage to pass.

I , a newly minted SubLt was donned in 8As the awesome dashing whites of Navy .
Wayback in late eighties these uniform was one of the greatest motivation for me to join Armed Forces .

I believed the Navy Whites made you look more handsome .
That belief further strengthened day when the Eunuch at that junction mentioned "Oye Chikne"( hey handsome)😘😘😘😘😘

I was on cloud 9 ; chalo koi toh handsome bola .
Next moment she mentioned ....200 Rs dede dua karoongi ki tu Admiral bane (Give me Rs 200; i will pray you become an Admiral) 😍😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣

I was shocked that even she knew the rank structures...of Navy .

I told her Rs 200 in 1986 was like you are asking major portion of my salary 😂😂😂😂

She was gracious enough and settled for 50Rs .
As i was about to pay , My driver who was a Naval sailor holding the rank of Leading Seaman mentioned "Sir doh mat kuch bhi; mei ne diya tha . Mereko boli thi tu Chief Petty Officer banega ....mei Leading Seaman mei hi thank you ho gaya 😂😂😂🤣"

she calculated the rank for that donation and wished me luck
