Did you know that till the 1970s, one could not keep a moustache in the navy🤷🏻♂️. This was another tradition we inherited from the Brits. You either had a beard or were clean shaven…no in between. The decision to do away with this 'tradition' and amend regulations was taken based on a young sailor telling the then CNS that it made little sense. Even at that time there were discussions that 'traditions' were being tampered with. Today most would not even know about this historical trivia & those who do would agree that it was ridiculous to continue a tradition merely as "that is how it has always been done"
